Eric Lefkofsky, a Man of Many Parts

One way to attain greatness is to study the lives and times of great men. Eric Lefkofsky falls into this category of men. He was born on the 2nd of September, 1969 in Southfield, Michigan. His father, Bill, was a structural engineer while his mother, Sandy, was a full blown school teacher. He had the benefit of sound education, starting with Southfield-Lathrup High School to University of Michigan and finally to University of Michigan Law School where he obtained his Juris Doctor in 1993.

Lefklofsky is a man of many parts, so he has much to offer people aspiring to be great in life. He was an entrepreneur per excellence, an unrepentant philanthropist and a man with a heart for his community. These three areas of Lefkofsky’s life need more details for a better understanding of his person.

His entrepreneurial prowess is outstanding. There are few Americans that can rival his business acumen. The proofs are there for everyone to see. He co-founded Tempus and is currently its CEO. He is also a co-founder of Groupon and its current Chairman. No doubt, Eric Lefkofsky has the milk of human kindness flowing in his vein. In 2006, he and his wife, Elizabeth, put together a charitable trust called the Lefkofsky Foundation, for the singular purpose of supporting scientific, educational and charitable organizations and causes anywhere around the world. The foundation has a strong focus on children. It has provided funds for more than 50 such organizations to date. When it comes to being committed to the community, Lefkofsky seems never tired. He is a member of the board of directors at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. That is not all. The Art Institute of Chicago has him on its board of directors. The Museum of Science and Industry is not left out, he is also a member of its board of directors. Theatre Company, a performing arts institution in Chicago also brought him into its board of directors. Lefkofsky is one of the Trustees of Steppenwolf.

It is not easy to be a man of many parts because it comes with commitments and sacrifices. How Eric Lefkofsky handles all these parts with ease remains a mystery.
