A conference was held in July in Kiev to discuss the semi-presidential system of the Ukraine government. Other topics included constitutional challenges the system is currently facing. The group of participants consisted of some of the top experts in democracy and political affairs in Ukraine. One of the people that attended this conference was Sujit Choudhry, Director of the Center for Constitutional Transitions.

The Center creates and prepares a knowledge base that supports constitutional building. This is achieved by gathering experts from all over the world to create a manual for decision-makers. The Center also works with specialists from twenty-five plus countries in handling constitutional and political undertakings. Sujit Choudhry is known for his expertise on comparative constitutional law. The professor is currently leading project dealing with Territorial Cleavages, Security Sector reforms, and Constitutional Transitions.

In addition to serving as Director of the Center for Constitutional Transitions, Professor Sujit Choudhry also served as Dean at the University of Californian, Berkley – School of Law. His other achievements include positions with at New York University, and the University of Toronto. Sujit Choudhry has authored a number of books exploring constitutional transitions as well as a substantial amount of material on Canadian constitutional law (  A member of the United Nations Mediations Roster, Professor Choudhry regularly serves as consultant to the United Nations Development Program.

Professor Choudhry states that there is a lack of adequate research which hinders the productiveness of constitutional advice. The Center for Constitutional Transitions addresses this by pinpointing issues to the success of constitutional transitions. Since 1978, 185 constitutions have been written and adopted throughout the world. This is largely due to the dedicated work and extreme passion of Professor Sujit Choudhry.
