Why Ukraine Needed Sujit in their Constitution-Making Process


On 10th of July 2017, a team of constitution experts met in Kiev, Ukraine to discuss the semi-Presidential system of Ukraine government. The team consisted of world’s elite constitutional experts led by Sujit Choudhry. According to Sujit, the semi-presidential system remains weak. Presidential powers, weak political parties, and the legislature electoral are some of the key features that made Ukraine unstable. Prominent policy institutes including an International Institute for Democracy and Electorate Assistance and the Center for Policy and Legal Reform among others hosted the workshop.

During the seminar, a team of lawmakers with a clear understanding of the subject as well as the challenges facing the country joined Mr. Choudhry. Among these people was Thomas Sidelius of Dalama University, Ukraine’s representative on human rights Vladamir Vasilenko, the President of Supreme Court Victor Musiaka among others. Sujit has a reputation of helping countries faced with constitutional crises around the world. He has a collection of academic contributions and articles related to law, case study, and constitution. The collection is titled Sujit Choudhry’s “Constitution Making.”

The Ukraine’s Center for Constitution ensures there is information required for constitution making. The institution utilizes the international network of experts who come up with evidence-based policies concerning the constitution. The body assists the constitution-making team with all the relevant information needed in making decisions. Sujit Choudhry Talks about the Growing Interests in Analyzing the Constitution in the Existing Political Environment

Sujit Choudhry is renowned for his role in championing comparative constitutional law. Sujit founded the Center for Constitutional Transitions, which is an organization that assembles Constitutional experts from across the world. The experts help in the production of evidence-based policies that are required by the decision makers and agenda setting.

Earlier this year, Sujit Choundry featured in an interview in the CEOCFO Magazine that was published on 24th of April this year. Sujit notes that the Center for Constitutional Transitions is an organization that generates and mobilizes knowledge that is used for constitution building by assembling top legal experts who come together to produce evidence-based policies for decision makers and agenda setting research.
