Sujit Choudhry is an internationally recognized professor who bases most of his research in comparative laws of the constitution and politics. This involves the use of the constitutional design as a tool to manage the transitioning from violent to nonviolent self-governing politics, federalism, bills of rights among other researchers. Sujit Choudhry has also widely written on the Canadian constitutional law. One of his most recent work is a book chapter set to be released in Constitutional Democracies in Crisis (works.bepress.com). Generally, he bases his research on a tweet by Eric Holder who served as an Attorney General during the Obama presidency which was published at the end of 2017 to his followers. In the tweet Holder labeled any termination of White Special advisor Robert Mueller an absolute red line. He also continued and added that in case anything happens nonviolent demonstrations should ensue.
From Sujit Choudhry’s point of view to the Holders tweet ,the former Attorney General, the need to act is centered on two concepts. One of the concepts is the symbolic red line and the second concept is that Holder lets the American citizens decide if the officials have abused their power and trespassed the named boundaries. More to that Sujit Choudhry says that Holder implies that the reaction of the American citizens will help to decide how the issue will be handled. Choudhry says that Holder tweet is based on the idea of constitutional self-enforcement which is built within the concept of the focal point.
According to professor Sujit, the other example of a focal point is the length and the limit of the presidential term, which is two terms in the States all over the world. He continues to write and states that autocrats would seek to break the focal point by trying to increase their length in office by either declaring a state of emergency or going ahead and suspending the elections. Sujit Choudhry writes that if Holder red line is translated to a certain context, then it can be considered as a failure in democracy.
The chapter focuses on various aspects modern-day political climate especially in the social media, (Twitter) and several other places within the world that indicate the deterioration of the constitutional democracy together with the autocratic type of presidency.

Sujit Choudhry continues to maintain a strong presence in the global scene by sitting on several international organizations and often helps foreign countries create constitutions. At the same time, he was published countless books and shared his knowledge all over the world. The website Release Fact recently published an article about Sujit Choudhry’s thoughts on the current political climate.
This focuses on a chapter in his upcoming publication, “Constitutional Democracies in Crisis?,” regarding the potential firing of Robert Muller. It involves a tweet from Eric Holder, where Sujit Choudhry argues about a red line that exists in democracy. He gives another example where he points out the presidential term limit. There is nothing wrong with each of these red lines being broken on the surface but beneath there’s essentially a honor system. The rules and laws are only as good the people enforcing them. If nobody speaks up, then the system will be changed from its original ideas.
Deeper into the article, Sujit Choudhry mentions other ways a democratic government can fall. Democratic backsliding is a common cause, where a leader manipulates the system to favor them in the long term. Coup d’états and autogolpes used to be common methods, but in the modern era democracy is the dominant system globally. At the end of the day, a country’s constitution is simply a reference point. Its up to the leaders and the people to decide what it means, and how the country will implement the rules. For more of his views, click iconnectblog.com.
The world is always undergoing political shifts. Recently, the election of Donald Trump in the United States is once again proving that democracy will always be challenged. His controversial travel ban and polices are always testing the limits of his powers. There may never come a day when a country has political peace. A new generation with new ideals of right and wrong is always raising up.

Information has always changed as time changes, maybe because of developments in technology and other dynamics that affect the way people live and behave. This change affects even the constitution itself. This is the reason some information or rather rules found in the constitution are considered absolute and need to be amended. Some countries come up with a new constitution altogether.
Sujit Choudhry is an expert in the field of law and legislation. He is a very knowledgeable man who uses his immigrant status to his advantage. He has studied law in three different countries making him very exposed to matters affecting the constitution and how different people respond to certain laws.
One of the lessons Sujit has learned in the course of his very successful career is that one needs to keep reinventing their dreams and aspirations. If something doesn’t work the first time, then go back and come up with even a better model. Working in different parts of the world with many democracies in amending constitutions or even coming up with a new one altogether has taught Sujit never o make any assumptions. The best approach is to talk to the locals. The people on the ground will give you their experience and tell you what they expect or hope for.
Sujit believes that one of his greatest achievements that went unnoticed even by himself was bringing together experts from different democracies to work together in matters regarding the law. Bringing these experts together has outlived any project Sujit Choudhry has ever done. Currently, Center of Constitutional Transitions is working on three large thematic.
